If you like to access your AOL Mail account from iPad, you can download and use the AOL app which is available for free on the App Store. The AOL app provides a dedicated interface for accessing your AOL Mail, as well as other AOL services and content. Other than that, you can also access your AOL Mail account through the built-in Mail app.
iPad provides very good support to all IMAP email services, like Gmail, MS Exchange, Yahoo Mail, AOL mail, Outlook and many others. In this iPad mail setup guide, we will show you how to add AOL mail account to iPad. We will also include some tips and tricks why you can’t add your AOL account to iPad, how to fix it.
AOL Mail auto setup vs manual setup
You can retrieve your emails from AOL Mail server through the standard email protocols such as POP and IMAP using regular email clients like the Apple Mail app, Spark mail, Canary Mail, Blue Mail, Airmail, etc. Some email clients, such as Apple Mail as we mentioned above, have the built-in setup wizard for AOL Mail, which simplifies the process of setting up AOL email account.
Unlike the manual configuration, an email setup wizard automatically detects or prompts you to select the appropriate settings, such as the incoming and outgoing server addresses, ports, and encryption types. The wizard may also assist in setting up additional features like synchronization, folder organization, and account preferences.
iPad Mail includes AOL as an email option which streamlines the setup process, ensuring that the email account is properly configured. Alternatively you can also set up your AOL email account manually.
Add AOL Mail Account to iPad
In this guide, we will show you how to set up AOL account on iPad Air with its built-in option other than the manually email configuration. iPad air will automatically fill up most information with less manual input or intervention.
Open the Settings app on your iPad, scroll down to find Mail; Tap on Mail > Accounts > Add Account.
Now you should see a list of various email services, such as iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, Google, Yahoo, Aol, Outlook.com, and Other. Choose Aol. from the email providers list.
Manually type in your AOL email address, such as joe@aol.com, then enter the password for your mail account. Tap Next button to proceed.
The Mail app will verify your AOL account credentials with AOL Mail server. After the authentication, your AOL Mail account will be added to your iPad. And you will have the chance to choose which services you want to sync with your iPad, such as Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Notes.
Additional AOL mail setup & troubleshooting tips
iPad will automatically choose IMAP as the default AOL mail protocal. Every action you take with your AOL email on your iPad is synced on the IMAP server. If you organize your email into folders, you can access your AOL email from elsewhere and see the same folders you set up on your iPad. IMAP is ideal for email management on multiple devices, it can keep your AOL emails synced very well.
An alternative to setup AOL email on iPad is to use the manual configuration method. From the email providers list, you can choose Others other than AOL to enter into the manually setup mode.
If you cannot add Aol account to your iPad, double check the manual setup and configurations, you need to use “imap.aol.com” as the “Incoming Mail Server”, server port is 993, “smtp.aol.com” as the “Outgoing Mail Server”, server port is 465 or 587; make sure to input full email address into both “Incoming Mail Server” and “Outgoing Mail Server.”
As far as I can see the automatic setup does for aol does not work. There is no way to get the proper user Id. The automatic ID includes the @aol.com and you cannot edit the user Id field as the entire form that contains this is graded out. I solved this my turning off the main stmp and turning it on as the secondary. On this form I could edit the field. Too lazy to do this manually.
