AirPrint is a built-in feature of Apple devices that helps you print photos, documents without the need to download additional software, app or install drivers on your Mac, iPhone or iPad. Sometimes however you may need a separate printer app when your printer is not AirPrint-compatible. A common way is to download a printer app from the manufacturer. Most manufacturers, such as HP, Canon, Epson, have an app for printing with iPhone and iPad. Another less common way is to use third-party apps, such as Printer Pro, Printopia. These apps usually give more control to how and what you can print. They give you more control over things like paper size or print quality that you don’t have with AirPrint.
In this article, we will discuss how you can connect to a wireless printer from iPhone using the Printer Pro app from Readdle.
Look for the WiFi or WiFi direct icon on your printer, turn it on. Check your printer’s manual to connect it to your WiFi network. If your printer support WiFi direct, it can create a hotspot network or direct wireless access point with or without password. Often, the network name contains your printer’s brand or model name in it. If you choose to connect your iPhone to the printer via WiFi, make sure to connect both your printer and iPhone to the same Wi-Fi network. If you choose to connect iPhone to printer via WiFi direct, go to your iPhone Settings > Wifi, to connect your iPhone to the wireless access point that the printer creates.
Run Printer Pro app on your iPhone or iPad, tap on the Add Printer (+) button at the bottom. Select your printer model in list and tap Next Step.

Tap the []Print Test Page button on your screen bottom.

Wait for a second for the test page to be printed out. Then check the printed page.
- If the page looks good and you can see a clear image and read the text, tap ‘Looks Good‘ button below.
- If you see junk printed out or the page is black, select ‘Looks Bad‘ button.
- If the test page wasn’t printed at all, tap ‘Nothing Printed‘.

Further instructions will be provided in the printer app on your iOS device.
Calibrate a printer
Sometimes you may need to calibrate your wireless printer according to the calibration markers printed on the test page. And follow the on-screen instructions in the Printer Pro app to finish the calibration.

On the next screen, you will see the message saying your printer has been installed and it is ready to print.
