Run the portrait editor app on iPhone, add your selfie or any picture into the image editor. Tap on Retouch at the bottom left corner, then swipe left to reveal more tools at the bottom section of your iPhone screen. Choose B&W, then swipe on any part of the picture to make it black and white. Drag the slider bar below the photo to fine tune the B&W effect. Method 2. Change photo background to gray in Photoshop on PC

Other than editing a picture on iPhone, you may also consider exporting it to computer to turn its background to grey or B & W using a desktop image editor. If you have Photoshop, you can follow these quick steps to quickly edit the photo background and convert it to gray on computer.

Note that Adobe Photoshop gives us multiple ways to change the background color or style from an image. Here, we’ll only show you the quick steps to edit your photo’s background and convert it to gray using the quick selection tool.

Step 1. Select photo background

Opening the photo, portrait or selfie image in Photoshop on your Windows or Mac computer. We will use Photoshop for Windows in this demo.

Click on the Object Selection Tool which can be found on the tools list on the left of the Photoshop window. It looks like an arrow pointing to a dotted square near the top of the tool menu.

Then click the subject, people or animal in your photo. The tool automatically selects the entire subject for you. Click the Add to Selection button from the top toolbar to select multiple objects or people.

Right-click your photo and choose Select Inverse from the contextual menu. This selects everything in the background but the subject or people in your photo.

Step 2. Convert photo or selfie background to black and white

Go the Layers panel which is located at the lower right corner of Photoshop Window. Find and click the Create new fill or adjustment layer button  at the bottom of the Layers panel and choose Black & White… from the pop-up menu.

Now you will see that the image background has been greyed out. Finally go to export the photo as a new one from the File menu in Photoshop to your computer hard drive.
