Before iOS 11, you can only capture screen and save them as image files. Without jailbreaking or mirroring your iPhone iPad screen to PC, you can’t record your screen on iPhone. The new screen recorder tool was introduced since iOS 11. Now you can easily record iPhone screen videos using its built-in screen recording tool on iPhone or iPad. NO third party apps required.
Unlike the Camera app which records what you see as photos or videos, the Voice Memos which records what you hear as audio files, the screen recorder record what displays on your iPhone or iPad screen. So for some users, this is not a must-have utility. As a result the screen video recorder does not come as a separate app, like the torch tool for iOS. It is currently buried in the iPhone Settings. So before we use the screen recorder on iPhone, we have to firstly add it to the Control Centre first.
Add Screen Recorder to Control Center
In order to use it to record iPhone screen or capture screen videos on iPhone, you will have to firstly activate it on iPhone.
Go to Settings. Scroll down and tap on Control Centre. In the Control Center settings, you’ll see two sections: INCLUDED CONTROLS and MORE CONTROLS.
The Included Controls section lists the controls that are already included in your Control Center.
The More Controls section displays additional controls and tools that are available for inclusion but haven’t been added to the Control Center yet. Here you can add additional controls to appear in Control Centre.
Capture screen videos on iPhone
Once you added Screen Recording to Control Center on iPhone or iPad, you can quickly access it from your home screen. If you have an iPhone X or later, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen. If you have an iPhone 8 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
The Screen Recording button looks like a circle within a circle, see below screenshot.
Touch the Screen Recording icon from iPhone Control Center, you will see the 3 seconds countdown. Go to bring up what you like to capture on your iPhone screen. During the screen recording process, the status bar at the top of your iPhone screen will be red. To stop recording, you can simply tap the red status bar at the top of your phone screen or go to the Control Center again to stop the screen video recording. The recorded screen videos will be saved to the Photos app or your Camera Roll, the same place you save photos and videos on iPhone. You can find it in the Recents album or the Videos album. From there, you can edit, trim, or share the recorded video as you would with any other video on your iPhone.
Record iPhone screen with or without sound
Is your screen video capture muted? It is because the audio input is disabled by default. If you like to record screen videos with audio, go to iPhone Control Center, press deep on the Screen Recording icon to bring up the contextual menu with the Microphone audio option.
The audio recording through Microphone is turned off by default. Tap on it to activate sound recording for the screen video capture on iPhone.
