File exchange between mobile phones and computers is a hot topic. More and more people nowadays own both a smartphone and a computer. Many people may send a copy of their data from mobile phone to computer for backup or editing, then transfer the data back from computer to mobile phone so they can carry them on the go.
Apple provides several methods to copy files between an iPhone and a Windows computer, iTunes and iCloud. They allow you to sync photos, videos, and documents. Both of them however are difficult to use. BTW, it seems they have not be updated for several years and they have received lots of lower ratings in the Microsoft Store for performance issues, complexity, etc.
Today, we will introduce you two easier but more flexible and effective way to share all kinds of files between iPhone and computer, including photos, movies, music, documents like word/exel/ppt/txt/page/number/epub/chm/tif/tga/xbm, videos like avi/flv/rmvm/rm/mov/mp4/mp3/wma and more data and file types.
Method 1. Share media files between iPhone and PC using Documents app
Documents by Readdle can be a useful tool for file sharing between different devices and platforms. It includes the Connect to computer and the WebDAV server that enable you to transfer files between your iOS device and a computer on the same Wi-Fi network. Both of them can help you share photos, videos, music and other files from iPhone to PC or the other way around. You can upload files from your computer to the app or download files from the app to your computer using a web browser interface. If you haven’t already, download and install the Documents app for free (with in-app purchase) from the App Store on your iPhone.
Make sure your iPhone and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Open the Documents app on your iPhone. Tap the My Files tab at the bottom left corner if you’re not already in this section. Tap the More menu(three dots icon) in the top-right corner to open the menu and select Connect to computer. You’ll see a web address and a code displayed on the screen.

Launch a web browser on your Windows computer, enter the web address displayed on your iPhone and press Enter. This will open a web-based file transfer interface. You’ll be prompted to input the code to login. After that, you’ll see your iPhone’s file directory on the web page.

Navigate to the folder containing the files you want to transfer. Select the files you wish to transfer to the computer and click the download button in the web interface to save it to your PC. Then open the Downloads folder on your computer to find those downloaded photos, videos or music files using the File Explorer on your Windows computer.
To transfer files from the computer to your iPhone, click the Upload Files button on the web interface. Select the files you want to upload from your computer and confirm the upload.
Method 2. Transfer photos, videos, music between iPhone and Computer using FileMaster
Similar to the Documents app above, this file manager can also help you move files around using your local wi-fi network. You can connect up your iOS devices and computer to the same wi-fi network, then freely send files from one device to another over Wi-Fi. Best of all, this app is available on Apple App Store for Free.
Run FileMaster on your iPhone, you can see its main interface like this.

Touch the More… button to review more settings and options within this FileMaster app.

Choose WiFi Transfer from the context menu above. You will be taken to another screen on iPhone with a local IP address like below.

Make sure your iPhone and computer are connected to the same wi-fi network or wireless router. Then access above IP address on your computer. Open any web browser on your PC or Mac, such as IE, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, then type the above IP address in the address bar of your browser and press Enter to access it.

Now you can browse to folders and files on your iPhone right on your computer. Select any folder or files to download from iPhone to computer. If you like to transfer files the other way around, click Start Upload button at the top right corner to browser to the file on your PC or Mac and upload it to iPhone. The file transfer between iPhone and computer through Wi-Fi is extremely fast. As FileMaster app simply copy files within your local network, no files or data will leave your local wi-fi network. You can even disconnect your router from internet and exchange files between iPhone and PC wirelessly using this FileMaster app.
Thanks so much. Finally a solution! I have the common problem of my phone running an iOS that my mac no longer supports. Apple I love you but I do not want to buy a new mac 🙂
