Trim videos on iPhone

Sometimes you may want to shorten a long movie or video, cut off the unwanted portion of it on iPhone. You can easily remove any unwanted part of a video using the built-in Photos app without any third-party apps. In this article, we’d like to share with you two easy methods to trim videos on iPhone.

The Easiest way to trim videos on iPhone

The Photos app has the built-in tool to cut videos. This is the easiest and probably the best way you can remove a portion of the beginning or end of a recorded video clip on iPhone. Open the Photos app on your iPhone. Find the video from your Camera Roll or Videos album. Touch the Edit button at the top right corner. Drag the start or end arrow in white at the bottom, the trimming bar in yellow will show up. Select and preview the part of the video you want to keep. Tap Done to trim away the rest part, then select Save Video or Save Video as New Clip. The former will overwrite the original video, the later will create a new video clip with the length of the source video you have selected.

Cut, Split, Trim videos in iMovies on iPhone

Other than the Photos app, there’s another built-in app, the iMovie app, with the iOS. It is a more powerful video, movie editor and maker app.

Run iMovie on your iPhone. Create a project, then add your video from Camera Roll to create a new movie. Touch the video in the timeline, the trimming bar in yellow shows up. Drag the start and the end handles to select the portion of the video you want to keep. Tap Done button at the top left corner.

You can also split the video into different segments in iMovie, then delete those segments you want to get rid of and merge the rest.

Then select Share button at the bottom, choose Save Video, choose an export size: Medium, Large or HD. The new movie or video will be exported to your Photo Library instantly.

  1. They should put an “Are you sure?” prompt for the “Trim Original” option. I pressed “Trim Original” when editing my video and now the majority of it is GONE.

    1. I’ve got the same problem as you. Did you find the solution?
      I am so disappointed to this function that there is no chance to revert or recover the original video. I totally lost:(

    1. when you tap Edit, you should see one vertical white line, two white arrow at both the beginning and ending. press and drag the white arrow, you will then find the yellow selection box.
